DW: China and Brazil urge restraint on nuclear threats amid war in Ukraine.

Countries urge restraint from the use of nuclear weapons
Several countries, including China and Brazil, in the United Nations have issued a statement calling for restraint from the threat of using nuclear weapons in the Ukrainian crisis.
"We call for refraining from the use or threat of use of weapons of mass destruction, especially nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons," the statement said. Other countries that signed the statement include Indonesia, South Africa, and Turkey.
The countries that signed the statement also warned about the danger of strikes on nuclear power plants, stating that civilian objects should not become targets of military operations.
On the same day, China and Brazil held a meeting of the "Global South" countries discussing the situation in Ukraine and ways to prevent its escalation. The Chinese Foreign Minister stated the need for international support for a peaceful conference involving Russia and Ukraine.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the position of China and Brazil, calling their peace proposal regarding the conflict destructive. He also called on other nations to join in preparing for a second "peace summit."
These statements were made in the context of recent remarks by the President of Russia on the need to review the doctrine of Russian nuclear weapons use.
