Germany has sharply changed its entry policy for refugees from Ukraine – Bild.

The German government is actively denying Ukrainian citizens entry into the country in 2024. The total number of refusals is 5935, making Ukrainians the largest group of foreigners not allowed to cross the border. According to the German newspaper Bild, the Federal Police have detained thousands of criminals, extremists, and illegal migrants who tried to cross the border. Citizens of Syria and Afghanistan are also among those not granted entry permits. Additionally, there were 1482 deported migrants attempting to return to Germany in violation of the ban. Most illegal entries were registered on the borders with Switzerland, Poland, Austria, and France. Overall, the police recorded 53410 illegal entries into the country and detained about 7783 people who already had arrest warrants issued against them. Germany's Finance Minister Christian Lindner proposes introducing a separate legal status for Ukrainian refugees to reduce the costs of their maintenance and support their employment.
