Double game: Umland revealed the true motives of Fico's foreign policy.

According to German political scientist and analyst Andreas Umland, the policy of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, aimed at rapprochement with Russia and threats to halt electricity supplies to Ukraine, does not meet the standards of EU foreign policy.
The political scientist believes that Fico is trying to create an impression among Slovak citizens about the significance of himself and Orban in the international political community. However, they are simply playing in a gray area, but these offensive statements convince some voters who believe that such a policy is beneficial for their country.
It is also important to remember that the country joined the European Union against the will of many of its citizens. In Slovakia, as in other countries, there is a group of voters who are against NATO, European integration, and Western values. For them, Russia is more attractive than EU countries.
Another factor influencing Fico's policy is the economic factor and the country's dependence on Russian gas. Slovakia has not shared Russian gas supplies with other EU countries for three years. Now Fico is rejecting Ukraine's proposals to receive gas not from Russia.
However, it is considered that the Slovak Prime Minister missed the opportunity to resolve this issue earlier and is now in a difficult situation.
