The Russian army improved its tactical position in an important area of the front.

The press service of the Operational-Tactical Group of Forces 'Khortytsia' reported that the Russian military improved its tactical position in the Pokrovsk direction. Despite the enemy's attempts, the foe could not advance to new positions and was forced to retreat. The defense forces noted that the Russians attacked in the areas of Storozhevoe, Sukhaia Yaliva, Kostiantynopilskyi, and Veselyi Hai, but the combat actions did not lead to success. As a result of shelling, defensive assets were damaged at certain positions, leading to their loss. Currently, measures are being taken to restore the tactical situation in the areas of Pushkin, Pishchane, and Shevchenko.
Progress of the Russian army in the Pokrovsk direction
According to the DeepState project, since December 5, the Russian army has been actively moving southwest of Pokrovsk, in the area of Shevchenko settlement. The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that Russia does not intend to abandon its plans to capture Pokrovsk, despite significant losses.
Strategy of the Russians
Analysts believe that the Russian forces will try to bypass Pokrovsk from the west to force the Defense Forces to leave the city without direct assaults. Thus, they are counting on greater success in their actions.
It has also been reported that Russian invaders have occupied several settlements in Donetsk region, including Zhovte, Pustynka, Rozdolne, Novoselidivka, and Petrivka.
