The situation is critical: Popenko explained how record tariff increases push Ukrainians to the brink of poverty.

Energy expert Oleg Popenko reported a serious problem of rising prices and tariffs in Ukraine. According to the latest data from the State Statistical Service, this is leading to a deterioration of living conditions in the country. The situation with electricity prices is particularly alarming, having increased by 63.6% over the year.
'Even with understated data from the State Statistical Service, the price of electricity has increased by 63.6% in just one year (while electricity prices have risen by more than 60% for both household consumers and in the electricity market, affecting all types of goods and services), by 62.9%, and the price of butter has increased by 30.7%...', Popenko said.
Ukraine is also facing the problem of significant lagging of pensions and salaries behind the rapid rise in prices. This leads to an increase in poverty and begging among Ukrainian families.
'Everything is expensive: from basic foodstuffs to services. Many people, especially among pensioners, are on the brink of survival. The number of people living in poverty has increased 1.7 times and stands at 9% of the total population. Some are saving on electricity, some on food, and some even on medical services,' the expert wrote.
Moreover, Popenko noted that debts for utilities amount to 200 billion hryvnias.
Recall that Ukrainians were shown how prices for products, utilities, and services have changed over the year.
