The Scottish government will cut aid to Ukrainian refugees

The war in Ukraine forced millions of people to seek refuge in other countries, including Scotland. The country's government provided housing and support to Ukrainian refugees. However, due to financial problems, Scotland decided to cut aid programs.

The Scottish government plans to reduce expenses amounting to over 188 million pounds sterling. Funding for mental health, charitable organizations, and social services will be cut. Now, Ukrainian refugees will have to pay for meals that were previously free.

According to Scotland's finance minister Shona Robison, such measures are necessary due to additional government expenses amounting to 800 million pounds sterling, which are related to inflation, the pandemic, and the war in Ukraine.

The largest cuts were made in the areas of healthcare, mental health, and social assistance. Funding was reduced in national services and the education sector.

There will also be cuts in marketing expenses, particularly in the fields of tourism and decarbonization. The travel budget will be eliminated, which is the result of the completion of a pilot project on peak rail fares.

Currently, Ukrainians have the opportunity to receive financial assistance through the NRC program.
