The NR-1 Nerwin nuclear submarine, which was in service with the US Navy from 1969 to 2008, was used for reconnaissance and espionage missions during the confrontation with the Soviet Union and Russia. It was one of the most secretive surveillance tools in these conflicts, emphasizes military analyst Brandon Weichert.
«The mini-submarine was designed for deep-sea research, recovering objects from the ocean floor, and secret spy operations,» notes the expert in his article.
