Hungarians Interested in the Odesa-Brody Pipeline — The Reason.

Hungary intends to reconstruct the Odesa-Brody oil pipeline, which runs through Ukraine to the Lviv region. According to , this will require significant costs due to long-term inactivity.
Odesa-Brody Oil Pipeline
The Hungarian company Mol plans to use the Ukrainian Odesa-Brody pipeline to supply oil from other countries through the Black Sea and further transport it to Hungary via the 'Druzhba' pipeline. The pipeline stretches from Odesa to the Lviv region, with resources being transshipped at the Southern port with a storage capacity of up to 180 thousand tons of product.
Its launch will ensure stability in oil supply in the region, the EU, and Ukraine, but connecting to the Ukrainian network may be complicated due to the conflict with Russia.
Funding Issues
The reconstruction of the Odesa-Brody pipeline will require significant investments, and support from the European Union and other states will be necessary for the successful implementation of the project. It is important for Hungary to reduce its dependence on Russian oil, among other reasons, through this project.
In 2022, Hungary was allowed to import Russian oil, but new infrastructure could change this situation in the future.
Hungary's plans to recover the malfunctioning Odesa-Brody pipeline may alter the dynamics of the energy market in the region and help dilute the country's dependence on Russian oil supplies.Read also
